WHY MUSIC THEORY FOR VIOLIN/VIOLINISTS?
)Notes on the treble clef are arranged in a way that teachers can choose to start teaching the notes by strings, or by fingers (from open string, 1st finger, 2nd finger followed by 3rd finger.)
)Dynamics, Tempo, bowing symbols are introduced early to improve ensemble & orchestral experience.
)The concept of key signatures in relation to fingering positions is introduced. This is helpful in preparing students for ABRSM sight-reading tests up to the level of Grade 2.
)Musical terms including Col Legno, Con Sord, Harmonics, Portamento, etc. are brought forward from ABRSM Grade 4 Theory syllabus and included here as they are relevant to violin players.
)Instead of the keyboard, the violin fingerboard will be used as references for accidentals learning.
)Violin fingerboard will also be used as references in introducing the tone-semitone relationship as students are more familiar with the geographical locations of the notes on the violin fingerboard.
)Works best together with practical violin books such as Eta Cohen Violin Method Book 1, Fiddle Time Joggers, Violin Star 1, A Tune A Day Book 1, Strictly Strings Book 1, or other equivalent books. Upon completion of book 4, students will be ready for a smooth progression to Grade 1 Music Theory!
